Review Altinco 2024

A year of challenges and constant adaptation

Looking back, 2024 has been a year marked by significant challenges. The agricultural sector, in which we operate, is one of the most volatile and fragile, influenced by countless unpredictable variables. As our General Manager, Joan Minguella Piqué, explains: “In our sector, every year is a complex challenge, as we face the variability of nature with the same business model, all while managing forecasts, investments, and other key factors that directly impact the market.”

This year, climate conditions have been particularly extreme. Prolonged periods of drought were followed by intense rains, disrupting crop cycles and significantly reducing agricultural production. This instability has highlighted the growing need for innovative solutions, especially biostimulants, to help mitigate the effects of climate on crops.

This context of climate instability not only affects agricultural productivity but also increases operational costs, which inevitably impacts final consumer prices. According to Joan Minguella: “This situation has compelled both farmers and companies to seek more efficient and sustainable solutions to ensure profitability.”

Altinco achieves an ecological phytosanitary registration amid European restrictions

Environmental policies in the European Union have become increasingly restrictive regarding the use of plant protection products. This strict control, aimed at safeguarding public health and biodiversity, poses a significant challenge for the agricultural sector and companies innovating in sustainable solutions. Developing and registering new products with phytosanitary certifications can take up to 12 years and require substantial investments. In this context, it is essential to focus on researching ecological solutions that are both effective and environmentally friendly.
